Summer in Italy: Packing Light (For 1-2 weeks)

Italy is one of the most diverse places I have been in Europe. One moment you could be wandering piazzas, another looking at Roman ruins, and a couple hours later be on the most beautiful coast. It’s pretty amazing when you know where to go and what to pack. One of the most frustrating experiences while traveling is hauling luggage everywhere you go. In Italy this is especially true when staying in places with windy, steep staircases and no elevators… not to mention trying to use a bus, train, or bike.

The list below is a list of things I took with me on a week trip to Rome, Naples, and the Amalfi Coast. I had some outfits leftover so I think this list could be extended to last two weeks (and maybe more). I brought two bags : a Cotopaxi backpack and a Michael Kors large handbag and still had room for souvenirs!

Packed in Cotopaxi Backpack:

  • Four Gallon-Size Ziplock Bags with Clothes

  • 1 Pair White Leather Keds
  • 1 Pair Gladiator Sandals

**Note: The tip to fitting everything in this bag is rolling your clothes into Zip Lock Bags and then putting them in. Some clothes might wrinkles but it should be nothing a ten minute steam shower can’t fix

Packed in Michael Kors Handbag:

  • Camera Bag + Camera
  • Toiletries
  • Sunglasses
  • Passport
  • Wet Ones Hand Wipes
  • Tide to Go Pen
  • Liquids in a Zip Lock
  • Book + Kindle
  • Supplements/Advil/Prescriptions
  • Earplugs – TRUST ME… you’ll want these in the big Italian cities
